Sous Vide Steak

Sous Vide Steak – Cooking with Flem

What happens when you’re asked to clean the kitchen, watch the baby, and make dinner all at once? You grab the Sous Vide machine, your spice cabinet, and a great cut of steak. That’s exactly what happened when I decided to combine multitasking with experimenting in the kitchen. With my daughter Cora as my sous chef, we turned a chaotic evening into a delicious and memorable one.

Why Sous Vide Steak?

The decision to use the Sous Vide machine came down to practicality and fun. My wife Tanya, a self-proclaimed gadget lover, had purchased the machine, and I was curious to try it. Since Sous Vide is known for cooking meat perfectly, I figured it was the perfect choice for multitasking. I could watch Cora, clean the kitchen for filming, and whip up a restaurant-quality steak—all at the same time. Win-win-win!

Cooking with Cora

Including my daughter in the process made this experience even more special. Cora was 100% invested in helping, from “helping” season the steak to watching the timer on the Sous Vide machine. Being able to share these moments with her reminds me of why I include my family in everything I do—it’s about creating memories and showing her the joy in everyday activities.

Using the Spice Cabinet as a Palette

For me, cooking is a form of art, and seasonings are the colors. I decided to go big and experiment with unused spices from our pantry. The result? A flavorful masterpiece that was as fun to create as it was to eat. If you’re new to Sous Vide, don’t be afraid to get creative with your seasonings—it’s a low-risk, high-reward way to discover new flavors.

What I Learned About Sous Vide

One of the best things about Sous Vide cooking is how simple it is once you know your preferred doneness. Whether you like your steak rare, medium, or well-done, the Sous Vide machine delivers consistent results every time. It’s foolproof, making it perfect for busy parents or anyone who wants to cook like a pro at home.

Balancing Family and Creativity

Marriage and family life aren’t always easy, but they’re always rewarding. Just like a great game of football, they’re about teamwork, effort, and fun. For me, cooking Sous Vide steak with Cora was more than just making dinner—it was a way to include my family in what I do because everything I do includes them or affects them.
