Certified By Jerome: From Hobby to Teaching Tool

Certified By Jerome began as a fun experiment—a public access TV show where I explored hobbies, ideas, and passions. What started as a creative outlet for sharing stories and skills eventually grew into something more meaningful. Over time, it became a valuable teaching tool for my computer engineering students, blending entertainment with education.

What is Cooking with Flem?

One of the most memorable sections of the show was Cooking with Flem. The name alone sparked plenty of questions—and a few laughs. People often asked, “Why would you call it that?” My answer? “Because it’s my name—Fleming.”

Cooking with Flem was a segment dedicated to the art (and occasional disasters) of feeding yourself as a single man. From scratch-made pizza to ambitious dishes like Beef Wellington, I tackled it all. Half the time, the results were laughably bad, and the other half, I could’ve taught a masterclass from the sheer repetition and learning.

From Entertainment to Education

The joy of Certified By Jerome was in its adaptability. What started as an outlet for creativity evolved into a way to teach computer engineering concepts. My students learned problem-solving, process management, and even a little humor by seeing the parallels between cooking and coding. Whether it was troubleshooting a dish or debugging code, the lessons stuck because they were delivered in an engaging, real-world way.

Why Projects Like This Matter

Certified By Jerome reminds us that hobbies and passions can lead to unexpected opportunities. What began as a way to explore my interests became a tool for inspiring others and teaching valuable skills. It’s proof that the best projects grow when you start with what you love.
